Girls’ Generation inspires young Korean women to wear miniskirts in freezing weather

According to the Chosun Ilbo, Korean women continue to wear miniskirts, despite the record low temperatures, and pop idols like Girls’ Generation are partially to blame.

Another factor experts cite is the huge popularity of idol girl groups like Girls’ Generation. Chung Ji-young, a marketing manager at Hyundai Department Store, said, “As the length of skirts that members of girl groups wear became shorter, an increasing number of consumers seem to want to imitate them.”

With the growing popularity of mini coats, the length of dresses and skirts worn inside them has also got about 5 cm shorter than last year. While miniskirts last winter were on average 30 cm long, this winter they have shrunk to 25 cm.

Is anyone else creeped out by “tofu dolls”?

Filed under: trends, What the hell?! — extrakorea @ 11:52 am

Apparently, “tofu dolls” (also called “‘Prince Shin’ dolls“) are one of the latest trends. It’s a large pillow in a humanoid shape (head, arms, legs, and body). The head has a large, clear plastic envelope where its face would be. You put a picture of somebody that you like in the plastic sleeve. That way, you can “hug” the person you like, especially if you’re suffering from unrequited love.
When I was in early elementary school, I had a crush on one of my female classmates, and I would hug my pillow, pretending that it was her, but I was eight years old at the time. I find it creepy that grown-up adults would be doing this.
