Why Aoi Sora made me laugh and feel proud

Filed under: actors/actresses, eye candy, television — extrakorea @ 4:17 am

I’ve posted before about how three AV (Japanese porn) stars, Sora Aoi, Mihiro (Mihiro Taniguchi), and Rio (Tina Yuzuki), are to star in a Korean drama, Korean Classroom.

Two of them, Aoi Sora and Mihiro, held a press conference.

Aoi Sora said at the press conference, “I was very surprised at receiving this offer intially and I never knew that so many people in Korea recognizes me.”

Ha ha. The high amount of recognition could be due to the fact that Korea is the world’s largest per capita consumer of porn.

I myself am aware that I am in the AV business and that it’s a hotly-discussed topic in Korea.

Yes. Hotly discussed.

But if not for AV in the first place, I would not have been that well-known today. So I won’t be hiding my past.

That’s right. Don’t be ashamed of your past. I have a friend who is a big fan of your body of work. I, for one, am proud of you, and I stand at attention for you. At least, part of me does.

Check out the promotional preview over at AllKPop. At the end, there’s some kind of dramatic, over-the-top hysterics by a Japanese actor.

P.S. I promise to make the girlie pictures a rare occurrence.

Japanese porn star Aoi Sora was in Seoul

Filed under: actors/actresses, eye candy, television — extrakorea @ 1:23 am

I mentioned in a previous post that three Japanese porn stars, Aoi Sora, Mihiro (Mihiro Taniguchi), and Rio (Tina Yuzuki), are going to appear in a Korean drama, Korean Classroom, which is going to be on cable TV this month.

On May 8th, Aoi Sora was in the Apkujung district of Seoul. She handed out a hundred carnations as part of a Mother’s Day celebration. (In case you don’t know, Apkujong is a wealthy, trendy district of Seoul.)

Just by serendipity, I found out that Aoi Sora went to Shanghai this past March on a promotional tour. Apparently fans were disappointed when she came out fully-clothed, in ordinary attire. As one person put it, “It seems perhaps that the Chinese fans were waiting not for Aoi but for Aoi’s body.” Poor girl. Why can’t people see and appreciate her inner beauty? Oh, the humanity.

Japanese porn stars to act in Korean dramas

Filed under: actors/actresses, eye candy, television — extrakorea @ 1:40 pm

Japanese AV (adult video) stars Sora Aoi, Mihiro (Mihiro Taniguchi), and Rio (Tina Yuzuki) will act in a Korean drama called Korean Classroom. They will play three Japanese students who come to Korea to study and … wait for it … fall for Korean men. Like the TV show Misuda (“Chat with Beauties”), it will probably go to great lengths to list all of the many wonderful qualities of Korean men.
(source: AllKPop)

P.S. You can see a music video of Sora Aoi here. It’s safe for work, though there’s some pervy camerawork in the first fifteen seconds or so.

As Brian in Jeollanam-do points out, the first line of Sora Aoi’s Wikipedia entry is hilarious:

Sora Aoi (蒼井そら ,Aoi Sora) (also known as Sola Aoi) is a Japanese AV idol, nude model, and media personality who is best known for her large breasts.

I can just see the job interview now:

Interviewer: Why should we hire you to be an actress in our TV drama?

Sora Aoi: I am famous for my large breasts.

Interviewer: You’re hired!

In case you’re wondering, production finished last July and the drama should be aired on local cable channels this coming * May.

* pun intended

It had to happen: new TV drama about figure skater

Filed under: television — extrakorea @ 2:49 pm

A new TV drama has reunited the director and screenwriter of Coffee Shop Prince. (No, I didn’t see it either. I had better things to do, like sticking my head in an oven.) The storyline involves … wait for it … a young figure skater who want to become a champion. (Hat Tip to AllKPop)

The drama is widely anticipated to be a hit with Korean viewers, seeing how popular figure skating is in Korea right now thanks to Kim Yuna who became world champion at the recent 2009 World Figure Skating Championships and setting a new world record in the process. Although one might suggest that it is trying to cash in on the Kim Yuna momentum, one must take note that the drama had been mooted almost a year ago.

I think Kim Yu-na is a great athlete who worked very hard for her success, and seems to be a nice person as well. To her credit, it looks like the main actress also made sacrifices:

Min Hyo Rin’s performance on the ice rink was highly anticipated as she had practised vigorously for her role in the past year, putting in at least 10 hours and above of practise daily without fail. [ snip ] After donning her ice skates, Min Hyo Rin’s impressive showing on the ice ring won her applause from everyone watching her. Director Lee Yoon Jung personally came up to Min Hyo Rin and praised her for the hard work that she had put in for her role which led to Hyo Rin tearing.
